Yuka Fukunaga is a Professor at Waseda University, where she teaches public international law and international economic law. She is a winner of the Waseda Research Award in 2017.

 

She is Co-Secretary of the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL), Book Review Editor of the Journal of International Economic Law (JIEL), Executive Council Member of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL), and Secretary of the Japan Association of International Economic Law (JAIEL).

 

She is on the indicative list of panelists of the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement. She is also a Member of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) Panel of Arbitrators, a member of the Japan Association of Arbitrators (JAA), and Co-founder of the Japan Chapter of the Energy Related Arbitration Practitioners (ENERAP).

 

She was an Assistant Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) (2012-2013) and an intern at the Appellate Body Secretariat, World Trade Organization (WTO) (2002).

 

She holds an LL.D. (2013) and an LL.M. (1999) from the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, University of Tokyo, an LL.M. (2000) from the School of Law, University of California, Berkeley (with Fulbright scholarship), and an LL.B. (1997) from the Faculty of Law, Hitotsubashi University.
